Press Reports

Walsall U-15 5 Aston U-15 2 - 19.03.05
Kelvin Shakes (Pool Hayes) was the 4-goal hero as Walsall under-15s put Aston to the sword in this West Midlands league game. With both sides out of the running for a semi-final spot, Shakes put Walsall in control with two early goals. Aston pulled a goal back before half-time but Shakes added two more after the break. Alan Wilkes (Frank F. Harrison) added a fifth before Aston scored a second near the end of an entertaining game. A good win for Walsall after a disappointing season for a side that had had so much success until the professional clubs came calling.

Solihull U-15 2 Walsall U-15 1 - 22.01.05
Walsall under-15s went down to a late winner for the second week running as they bowed out of the Levon-Yates trophy at the first hurdle at Solihull . Already depleted by injuries four key players had to go off injured during the game reducing them to ten fit players. Anthony Roman (Sneyd) had put Walsall in front and Ben Clougher (Streetly) missed a good chance to increase the lead. Walsall keeper Duncan Rogers (Shire Oak) was outstanding as Solihull pushed for an equaliser. Once Walsall went down to ten players Solihull soon equalised when a shot hit the bar and rebounded off Rogers into the net. The winner came with minutes left.

Stafford U-15 2 Walsall U-15 1 - 15.01.05
Walsall under-15s went down to a last gasp winner to high flying Stafford in this West Midlands clash. Walsall dominated for long periods without finding the net. Ben Clougher (Streetly), Andy Bentley (Shire Oak) and Alan Wilkes (Frank F. Harrison) all went close for Walsall before Stafford grabbed a first half lead from the penalty spot. Jake Perks (Streetly) was outstanding in Walsall ’s midfield and Seth Taylor (Arthur Terry) and Russell Seymour (Willenhall) controlled things at the back but it was two minutes from time before Wilkes grabbed a deserved equaliser. Stafford then shocked Walsall when a high ball over Walsall ’s defence was lobbed over the keeper with seconds left.

Walsall U-15 8 Warley U-15 0 - 4.12.04
Walsall under-15s maintained their recent resurgence in emphatic style against Warley to leave them with an outside chance of a West Midlands semi-final spot. Seven of the eight goals came in the second half and but for a brave display by the Warley keeper it could have been more. Alan Wilkes (Frank F. Harrison) helped himself to four goals to maintain his excellent scoring record since joining a much-changed side. Walsall ’s other scorers were Jake Perks (Streetly), Andy Bentley (Shire Oak), Kelvin Shakes and Jonathan Pritchard (Pool Hayes).

Walsall U-15 5 Brierley Hill and Dudley U-15 0 - 20.11.04
Walsall under-15s recorded their first win of the season with a five-goal salvo against Brierley Hill and Dudley . Amazingly Walsall only had an Andy Bentley (Shire Oak) goal in the last seconds of the first half to show for their efforts at half-time. Anthony Roman (Sneyd) gave Walsall a two-goal cushion early in the second half. Ashley Lawrence (St. Thomas More) celebrated his return to the team by setting up a goal for Kelvin Shakes (Pool Hayes). Shakes scored another minutes later before Lawrence completed the scoring, the last three goals coming in a five minute spell near the end.

Mid and South Warwickshire U-15 4 Walsall U-15 2 (ESFA/NUT Trophy) - 9.10.04
The under-15s went out of the ESFA Trophy, losing 4-2 at Mid and South Warwickshire despite a good performance from an injury hit squad. Walsall started well and were unfortunate to find themselves 2-0 down. Alan Wilkes (Frank F. Harrison) pulled a goal back for Walsall before half time. Walsall ’s efforts to grab an equaliser saw them caught on the break to go 3-1 down. Ben Clougher (Streetly) had two good chances to pull a goal back before a fourth goal made the game safe for the home side. Wilkes completed his brace but it was too late for Walsall .The under-15s went out of the ESFA Trophy, losing 4-2 at Mid and South Warwickshire despite a good performance from an injury hit squad. Wolverhampton U-15 8 Walsall U-15 1 - 18.09.04
The under-15 game proved to be a shocker for Walsall as they slumped to a record defeat. A side that has had so much success in the last four years was buried in a fifteen minute first half spell which saw Wolves score five goals. Two further goals before half time only added to Walsall ’s misery. Wolves only managed one goal in the second half but in truth it could have been more. Alan Wilkes (Frank F. Harrison) scored Walsall ’s goal in only his second game for the team.

Walsall U-15 0 Cannock U-15 2 - 11.09.04
Walsall
under-15s fielded a much-changed side from last season because of injuries and players now claimed by various professional club academies. They got off to the worst possible start when Cannock claimed the lead with a goal after just three minutes. One bright spot in the first half for Walsall was an impressive debut from Alan Wilkes (Frank F. Harrison) who saw a shot deflected onto the bar. Ben Clougher (Streetly) missed a golden chance to equalise but another goal for Cannock midway through the second half put the game out of reach.
