Press Reports
Walsall U-14 0 Stoke-on-Trent U-14 1
- 8.03.03
The under-14s suffered a narrow defeat against Stoke as they
continue to look for their first competitive victory of the season. Stoke scored
the only goal in the first half but then had to withstand a second half pounding
from Walsall. Lee Mills (Shire Oak) hit the post and Walsall had penalty claims
for a handball on the line turned down. Richard Taundry (Aldridge) was
outstanding for Walsall.
Brierley Hill and Dudley U-14 17 Walsall U-14 1
- 8.02.03
Switching venues proved a disaster for Walsall in the
under-14 game as an already depleted squad was reduced to 9 players. Within
minutes of the start Walsall were reduced to 7 because of injuries and the game
became a farce as the top of the table home side rattled up 17 goals despite
lending Walsall a couple of players. At least John Griffiths (Pool Hayes) was
able to claim Walsall’s only goal on his return to the team.
Walsall U-14 3 Erdington and Saltley U-14 0 - 18.1.03
The under-14s completed a good weekend for Walsall with their
first victory of the season in this challenge match against Erdington and
Saltley. The recalled Stefan Farquason (Alumwell) set Walsall on the way and
Richard Taundry (Aldridge) added a second from the spot. Walsall were always on
top and it was no surprise when Anthony Wooton (Streetly) scored a third goal.
Richard Hough (Darlaston) and Alex Deeming (Aldridge) played well in a good team
performance after a long lay off due to postponements.
Walsall U-14 0 Telford U-14 3 - 2.11.02
No report available, but Walsall started with only 10 players
although an 11th turned up during the first half. The game was closer than the
score suggests but this team are still looking for their first win.
Walsall U-14 2 Wolverhampton U-14 2 - 26.10.02
Walsall under-14s avoided defeat for the first time this season by coming
back from two goals down to claim a share of the Staffordshire points against
Wolverhampton. Having lost 5-0 to Wolves in a West Midlands game earlier in the
month the omens were not good for Walsall but a repeat of the fighting
performance in the last game against Coventry kept the Wolves at bay in the
first half. Second half goals from James Simmonds and Joe Davis looked to have
settled the game for Wolves but replies from Mathew Christodoulou (Arthur Terry)
and Stefan Farkason (Alumwell) gave Walsall a deserved draw.
Coventry U-14 2 Walsall U-14 1 (ESFA Area 5
Wolves Cup) - 12.10.02
Walsall under-14s went out of the Wolves Cup despite taking the lead after
ten minutes with a Richard Taundry (Aldridge) goal. Coventry hit back with goals
from Luke Thomas and Richard Davies.
Information from Graeme Hollinshead and the Express and Star.
Wolverhampton U-14
5 Walsall U-14 0
- 5.10.02
Wolverhampton’s under-14s gained some revenge for the
under-15 result with an emphatic victory. Walsall never recovered from being 2-0
down after five minutes and turned in their worst performance for a long time.
Walsall keeper Lewis Poppitt (Aldridge) actually prevented an even more
embarrassing result and Richard Taundry (Aldridge) refused to give up without a
fight.
Walsall U-14 1 Halesowen and Stourbridge U-14 2 - 14.09.02
In
the under-14 game the visitors started strongly and took the lead on five
minutes with a good finish from Philip Pope (The Grange). Walsall failed to
create any clear-cut chances in the first half and conceded another goal before
the break when a poor clearance from a corner set up Robert Gregory (Earls) to
score despite a brave initial block by keeper Lewis Poppitt (Aldridge). Poppitt
came to Walsall’s rescue minutes later with another great block. Walsall came
back well in the second half and Richard Taundry (Aldridge) pulled a goal back
with a long-range effort that found the top corner. Walsall’s Matt Jones
(Aldridge) saw a good run ended by a brave block from the keeper as they
searched in vain for the equaliser.
