Press Reports

Wolverhampton U-13 2 Walsall U-13 1 – West Midlands County SFA Semi-final - 03.05.05
Playing their first game for 3 months, Walsall under-13s nearly pulled off the shock of the season in this West Midlands semi-final. All the goal action came in the last ten minutes with Walsall taking a deserved lead when Robbie Edgar (Aldridge) scored following a superb Ryan Walker (Willenhall) corner. Five minutes later Edgar set up Walker with a defence splitting ball but Walker ’s shot was inches over the bar. Wolves equalised a minute later through Kane Cork following a corner. With seconds to go another corner saw the ball slip from Walsall keeper Daniel Whitehouse’s (Streetly) grasp and Johnathan Baker scored the winner.

Erdington and Saltley U-13 0 Walsall U-13 1 - 03.02.07
Walsall under-13s gained another important West Midlands victory with a good performance at Erdington and Saltley. A forgettable first half was followed by an all-action second half. Sam Smith (Streetly) went close for Walsall and Ryan Walker (Willenhall) had a couple of good chances as they put the home side under terrific pressure. Walsall finally got what they deserved when Robbie Edgar (Aldridge) split the defence with a superb pass and Walker ran on to slot the ball past the keeper. Walsall should have added to the lead as great play by Walker set up David Meddings (Aldridge) but his shot was blocked. Sam Smith (Streetly) and Oliver Spencer (Aldridge) were both denied a goal in a frantic last couple of minutes.

Walsall U-13 4 Nuneaton and District U-13 1 - 27.01.07
Walsall under-13s earned a welcome first victory of the season in this West Midlands league game. Walsall took the lead against the run of play when Kieran Price (Shire Oak) chipped the keeper. Nuneaton equalised on the stroke of half-time. Walsall gained command with two quick goals from Ryan Walker (Willenhall) straight after the break. Walker completed his hat-trick as Walsall ran out deserved winners. Sam Smith (Streetly) turned in a good performance in midfield as did Jarred Goldbourne (Shelfield) at the back.

Walsall U-13 0 Kings Norton and South Birmingham U-13 5 - 09.12.06
Walsall under-13s opened their West Midlands campaign with a disastrous 5-goal reverse. All five Kings Norton and South Birmingham goals could be put down to defensive frailties. Walsall keeper Daniel Whitehouse (Streetly) had no chance with any of the goals and Jarred Goldbourne (Shelfield) confirmed his position as Walsall ’s best player on the day with an early goal saving tackle. Walsall ’s only real threat came near the end when Jak Morrell-Davis (Shelfield) went close following a free kick.

Walsall U-13 0 Stoke-on-Trent U-13 2 - 04.11.06
Walsall under-13s crashed out of the ESFA Walsall Cup against a strong Stoke side full of Port Vale and Stoke City scholars. In their first game of a delayed season Walsall fought hard but were always up against it.
