Press Reports

Gloucester U-11 Girls 3 Walsall U-11 Girls 4 - 10.5.03
The under-11 girls travelled to Gloucester and recorded a welcome first victory in the Staley-Mowbray competition with all the goals coming in an amazing first half. Charlie Abley (St. John’s) gave Walsall the lead and Gloucester hit back with an equaliser. Further goals from Natalie Taylor (Old Church) and Samantha Rickards (Kings Hill) were each cancelled out with an equaliser. A second Taylor goal before the break proved to be the winner for Walsall.

Walsall U-11 Girls 1 Wolverhampton U-11 Girls 4 - 5.4.03
The under-11 girls side lost a third game to Wolverhampton but they continue to show progress. Walsall took the lead through Natalie Taylor (Old Church) following a corner. Wolves caught Walsall on the break a minute later and Sophie Richards (St. Martin’s) provided a clinical finish. Ashleigh Wilcox (Wilkinson) then hit a post for Wolves and saw a shot cleared off the line. Natalie Morris (Villiers) had a shot which was parried by Walsall keeper Joanne Harrison (Old Church) and Richards was on hand to give Wolves the lead. A strike from Zoe Bradnock (Wood End) and a third from Richards wrapped things up for Wolves.

Wolverhampton U-11 Girls 5 Walsall U-11 Girls 0 - 9.3.03
Walsall under-11 Girls lost to Wolverhampton again but their performance was much better than the score suggests. Walsall’s Charlie Abley (St. John’s) hit the post after two minutes and Kylie Williams (Christchurch) saw her shot go just wide as Walsall looked the most likely to score. Sophie Richards (St. Martin’s) beat Walsall keeper Joanne Harrison (Old Church) with the help of a bad bounce. Harrison then made a good save before Sophie Durrance (St. Jude’s) added a second. Second half goals from Zoe Bradnock (Wood End), Natalie Morris (Villiers) and Natalie Burke (Trinity) completed the scoring for Wolves.

Wolverhampton U-11 Girls 6 Walsall U-11 Girls 1 - 2.3.03
The Walsall under-11 Girls team started its Staffordshire league programme with a difficult fixture against an already up and running Wolverhampton side. Wolves took the lead but Sarah Jackson (Whetstone Field) equalised from the penalty spot before the break. Wolverhampton stepped up a gear in the second half scoring five goals without reply. Walsall’s Laura Hewitt-Marsh (Cooper and Jordan) produced an encouraging performance in midfield. Walsall will be hoping to turn the tables in the return fixture next week.
