25.05.02
The Walsall under-11girls A side got off to a perfect start
against local rivals Wolverhampton when Mary Chandler (St. Francis) won the ball
in midfield and after exchanging passes with Laura Bond (Cooper and Jordan) she
released Vinny Sansara (Pinfold Street) who drilled the ball into the bottom
corner. Sansara had several chances to put the result beyond doubt. Notably when
Charlie Abley (St. Johns) cleverly chipped the defence to put Sansara one on one
with the keeper but she poked the ball wide. As the game went on Walsall tired
in the wet and windy conditions. Unable to get the ball out of their half a
corner saw Wolverhampton equalise with only 20 seconds left to play. A
disappointing end to the season for the Walsall girls.
Walsall U-11B Girls 3 Wolverhampton U-11B Girls 3 -
25.05.02
This was a game that Walsall should have wrapped up at half
time. Charlotte Swift (Park Hall) had spectacularly given Walsall the lead with
a volley from inside the area after good work by Katie Moore (Greenfield). The
same combination created Walsall's second. Moore won the ball in midfield before
playing the ball into space for Swift to run onto and score. Her finishing was
not as composed later as she wasted several good opportunities. The misses
proved costly as Wolves pulled a goal back to go into half time at 2-1 down.
Katie Moore had to be replaced at half time due to injury but with 2 players
already missing through illness, Laura Bond (Cooper and Jordan) had to fill the
space. The re-shuffle saw Walsall concede 2 quick goals. Shaken, Walsall pushed
for an equaliser and Swift had more chances to put Walsall back in front.
Finally a slice of luck saw a Laura Bond (Cooper and Jordan) corner end up in
the net for the equaliser.
Gloucester U-11A Girls 2 Walsall U-11A Girls 2 - 11.05.02
An improved performance by Walsall under-11 girls saw them
grab a share of the spoils at Gloucester. Walsall made all the early running but
keeper Chelsey Field (Greenfield) was beaten by a speculative 35-yard shot when
the ball hit a bobble in the pitch and deflected into the net. Gloucester went
two up when a similar deflection deceived unlucky defender Sarah Hancock (Busill
Jones). Walsall’s Vinny Sansara (Pinfold Street) shaved the post and hit the
bar before the break. Mary Chandler (St. Francis) pulled a goal back for Walsall
and Zainab Pervais (Greenfield) set up Sansara for the equaliser. Laura Bond
(Cooper and Jordan), Chandler and Sansara all had good chances to win the game
for Walsall.
Gloucester U-11B Girls 2 Walsall U-11B Girls 2 -11.05.02
The B team game in fact saw Walsall up against some Gloucester
players who played in the first game and they also found themselves 2-0 down at
the break. The young Walsall side fought back in the second half and Michelle
Few (Whetstone Field) almost scored with a spectacular lob before Charley Abley
(St. John’s) set her up for Walsall’s first goal. Walsall equalised after
good work by Beth MacDonald (Greenfield) saw Few’s snapshot falling to the
feet of Abley who made no mistake.
Walsall U-11A Girls 0 Gloucester U-11A Girls 3 - 20.04.02
After an enthusiastic and productive training session on
Thursday evening, spirits were high going into the game. A bright opening saw
both Zainab Pervais (Greenfield) and Charlotte Swift (Park Hall) test the
opposition goalkeeper. It was somewhat cruel that having made the early running,
Walsall went behind from one of Gloucester's first attacks. Vinny
Sansara lost possession in the midfield as Walsall had started to commit players
forward and a quick counter attack saw Gloucester take the lead. Sansara was
playing well below her best and again was robbed too easily putting Walsall
under pressure for the second goal. With a 3 v 2 attack to defence it was too
easy for Gloucester to stroke the ball past the keeper. Laura
Bond (Cooper and Jordan) had to be sacrificed to a more defensive role and the
tactical switch allowed us to tighten up and get to half time at 2-0. The need
for urgency and a greater commitment to winning back the ball were stressed.
Walsall again started the half well. A succession of corners was forced and
Laura Bond's accurate deliveries allowed Zainab Pervais and Charlotte Swift
very good opportunities to score. After this
concerted period of pressure, it was soul destroying for Gloucester to clear the
ball from a corner, then force one at the other end. From this first sortie into
Walsall territory, the corner deflected off Stephanie Clarke (St. Johns) past
the helpless keeper Chelsey Field (Greenfield). Vinny Sansara was withdrawn in a
last throw of the dice and Mary Chandler (St Francis) gave the side some much
needed bite in midfield. Walsall kept pressing for a goal but could not break
back into the game.

- 20.04.02
The B team completed a forgettable day with an 8-0 defeat.
With some girls having to play for teams in the afternoon, an understanding of
playing just one half of the game was agreed. At half time Walsall were only 2-0
down but with the changes made at half time a weakened team faced a combination
of the Gloucester A and B team and crumbled to an 8-0 defeat.

Bassetlaw and Wolverhampton A with goal scoring opportunities few and far
between in either game. Walsall then played Nottingham City Grass Roots
Development squad and despite conceding an early goal battled back to a 1-1
draw. Walsall’s goal came when Vinny Sansara (Pinfold Street) won the ball in
midfield and set up Charlotte Swift (Park Hall) who drove the ball home. Team of
the tournament, Nottingham A, then beat Walsall 3-0. Sarah Hancock (Busill
Jones) was Walsall’s player of the tournament after her sterling efforts in
defence.
