Sixteen
primary schools battled it out in the
Walsall
primary
schools’ finals at
Brownhills
Community
School
last
Saturday morning. In the East Final Blackwood beat St. James 4-1. Both sides
had won all their group games but Blackwood turned on the style in the final.
In the West Final Christchurch reached the final as top scorers on the morning
but found it tougher against Elmore Green, winning by a single goal. Both
Blackwood and
Christchurch
will
represent
Walsall
in the
West Midlands Final of the new 7-a-side competition this Saturday.
In
the
West Midlands
county final of the under-11 boys
7-a-side competition the two
Walsall
schools,
Christchurch
and Blackwood, looked on course for
an all-Walsall final during the group stages. Blackwood topped their group with
an unbeaten record and
Christchurch
with a couple of good victories
looked to be joining them in the semi-finals, however St. Brigid’s from Kings
Norton had other ideas beating them 2-1 in the group decider. Blackwood beat
Timberley (Saltley) 2-0 in the semi-final but lost 1-0 to St. Brigid’s in the
final. A superb early goal shook Blackwood and they then spent the rest of the
game camped in the opposition’s half of the pitch desperately seeking an
equaliser.
